Lumigator is here!

The rapid evolution of AI has brought an explosion of language models, each promising state-of-the-art performance. However, choosing the right model for a specific use-case remains a daunting challenge for many developers - as we discussed here. Engineers often end up selecting models without fully understanding the trade-offs involved.

At Mozilla.ai, we believe that every developer, regardless of their knowledge in machine learning, should have access to clear insights when selecting AI models. Whether you’re building your first AI-powered application or you’re an experienced ML practitioner, Lumigator is here to lower the barrier to AI adoption and ensure that you’re making informed decisions.

Meet Lumigator: Your Tool to Model Selection

Lumigator is a developer-first tool designed and built by the community to help engineers evaluate and compare AI models with ease. Lumigator empowers developers to make data-driven choices when integrating language models into their applications.

Key Features:

Quantitative Evaluation Metric-based Model Comparison and Insights: Compare both closed-source and open-source models side by side, using metrics like BERTScore, ROUGE and METEOR.

Support for both Hugging Face & OpenAPI-Compatible Models: Evaluate models available on Hugging Face Model Hub or those accessible via APIs such as OpenAI and Mistral.

UI, and API Components: Whether you prefer a user interface or API integration, Lumigator adapts to your workflow.

Developer-Friendly SDK & Documentation: Get started quickly with clear documentation and an easy-to-use SDK (see here).

For this first Alpha Release, we are focusing on text summarization, but this is just the beginning. Our roadmap includes expanding into new use cases such as translation and integration with several evaluation libraries, including lm-eval-harness, ensuring access to a larger suite of metrics and the broader AI ecosystem.

Built with the Open Source Community, Open for Collaboration

At Mozilla.ai, we believe in the power of open collaboration. That’s why Lumigator is not just a tool—it’s a growing ecosystem where developers can contribute, refine, and shape its future.
